Traffic & Road Closures

To manage the expected crowd influx, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will enforce phased road closures beginning on December 31 from 4 pm to keep traffic flowing smoothly and enhance public safety, especially around celebration hotspots like Downtown Dubai and Burj Khalifa. Khaleej Times

Closure schedule highlights:

  • From 4 pm: Al Asayel Street, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, Burj Khalifa Street, Lower Financial Centre Road and Al Mustaqbal Street will be restricted for general traffic. Khaleej Times

  • 8 pm: Al Sukook Street will be closed. Khaleej Times

  • 9 pm: Upper Financial Centre Street will be blocked off. Khaleej Times

  • 11 pm: Partial closure of Sheikh Zayed Road will begin between the Al Maidaan intersection and Commercial Centre roundabout — central to traffic control on the busiest routes. Khaleej Times

Motorists are urged to plan ahead, avoid the central Downtown area if possible, and use alternative routes or public transport to reach celebration sites. Khaleej Times

Metro & Public Transport Operations

To support the massive movement of people, **Dubai Metro’s Red and Green Lines — alongside the Dubai Tram — will operate non-stop for an incredible 43 hours over the New Year period. Khaleej Times

  • Metro services: 5 am on December 31 to 11:59 pm on January 1, 2026. Khaleej Times

  • Tram services: 6 am on December 31 to 1 am on January 2, 2026. Khaleej Times

However, the Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station will be closed to entry from 5 pm onwards (or before if capacity limits are reached) to help with crowd control in the immediate fireworks zone. RTA has advised travellers to use other nearby stations such as Emirates Towers, World Trade Centre, Financial Centre or Business Bay and recommended that metro riders top up their Nol cards ahead of time. Parking, Shuttles & Crowd Movement

While driving into the core celebration area is highly restricted, authorities have organised alternative parking and shuttle services to ease access and dispersal: Gulf News

  • Alternative parking: Al Wasl Club and Al Kifaf parking zones with free shuttle buses to event areas. Gulf News

  • Overflow parking: Various Emaar district parking spaces such as Dubai Mall, Zabeel–Dubai Mall, Fountain View, Boulevard Lower Parking. Gulf News

  • Shuttle services and taxis: Free buses and taxi services will operate to ferry visitors after fireworks to metro stations and parking hubs, ensuring smoother exits from Downtown. Gulf News

Parking is strictly prohibited on many main roads near Downtown — including Al Khail Road, Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai–Al Ain Road, and Oud Metha Road — so early arrival and use of transit options are strongly recommended. Gulf News

Safety & Support Measures

Dubai’s Event Security Committee (ESC) and authorities have also deployed extensive safety infrastructure for the celebrations. This includes support and assistance tents, police presence across celebration sites and a fully equipped field hospital in the Burj Khalifa area, along with medical and emergency response teams to ensure a secure and comfortable experience for all attendees.
